A study conducted on people who consume cannabis for several reasons suggested that most people weren’t even aware of their product and had no clue what amount of CBD or THC they were using. Their idea of ideal ratio or amount of the cannabinoids that should be in the product was nowhere near the recommended amount. This is arguably the biggest concern especially for people who are holding an Oklahoma medical marijuana card as not having the basic information can affect their health conditions even further.
Understanding THC and CBD ratios
If you are new to cannabis, you need to understand that the amount of THC and CBD you consume completely alters the effects of marijuana on your body. Every ratio of CBD to THC cannabinoids has something very different to offer. This means consuming any random marijuana strain that has a CBD to THC ratio unknown to you may not offer the expected effects.

What ratio you need to get totally depends on the effects you expect from the product. If you want minimal to no psychoactive effects, you will need to avoid higher concentration of THC. whereas, if you want the intoxicating, psychoactive effects of marijuana to be prominent, you should invest in a higher THC concentration.
There are different ratios that you may see on labelled products. These ratios determine the amount of CBD and THC present in the product. Common ratios include 1:1, 1:0, 0:1, 5:1, 10:1, and 20:1. Of course a different ratio will promise to manage a different health condition.
1:1
New users are highly recommended to start using marijuana that has an equal amount of CBD and THC. in this ratio one gets to enjoy the medicinal benefits of both THC and CBD without getting the adverse effects of THC. However, it will still offer mild psychoactive effects to the consumer as even a small amount of THC can offer these effects.
1:0
The ratio suggests that the product has zero traces of THC. This is often called a CBD isolate. You may not find this ratio mentioned on the product but ‘CBD isolate’ suggests this ratio. A 1:0 product or CBD isolate will not offer any psychoactive effects whatsoever and may not be as effective as the 1:1 ratio. But it is still decently effective for people who choose to consume only CBD.
0:1
Just like the 1:0 ratio, 0:1 will have no traces of CBD and just THC isolate. The product will offer prominent euphoric effects and it may even have adverse effects on a new consumer. THC isolate is said to provide relief from pain and inflammation, and it can boost the consumer’s mood with its psychoactive properties.
5:1
A higher amount of CBD to THC will give very mild psychoactive effects and significant benefits of CBD. It is ideal for people who wish to have the benefits of CBD without missing out on the medicinal properties of THC.
10:1
For people who believe 5:1 still has stronger psychoactive effects than they can tolerate or require, they can choose an even higher amount of CBD combined with minimal THC. These products will offer the entourage effect that is known to increase the benefits of CBD even further. THC, in these products, don’t give the psychoactive effects but instead push CBD resulting in its effects getting stronger than isolated CBD.

The Golden Ratio
The golden ratio is a name given to the ratio that has equal amounts of CBD to THC. in order to get proper benefits of the cannabis plant, it is believed and often suggested by the cannabis doctor to prefer products that have both THC and CBD as they together can offer way more than what one can expect from isolates. It happens mostly because of the entourage effect. Entourage effect is generally produced by terpenes and cannabinoids other than THC when they work synergistically with THC but in 1:1 both CBD and THC work together to produce the said effect.
The ratio is called golden as it makes sure that all the medicinal benefits of THC and CBD combined are being provided to the consumer and both body and mind get the said benefits.
What Is the Best Ratio for You?
Which ratio shall work best for you totally depends on the reason and condition you are consuming cannabis for. If you are a new consumer, all we can suggest is to start with a product that offers you both the cannabinoids so that you can understand how they both work for your body. After that you can always experiment with the ratio and amount as per your body and health requirements. Starting with isolates, especially THC, is not recommended as it may totally ruin your experience as a beginner or not be as effective or beneficial as it should be.
